Stress Has Got Me in It's Clutches

Greetings Friends~

Those close to me know that I am a habitual over-achiever. Why plant just one tree when I could plant 100? Why have a 10' x 20' garden when I could have a half acre or more? Why make one tray of goodies for Christmas when I could make 50 gift bags and 12 trays? It is definitely a character flaw that I struggle with.

I made it through Thanksgiving without too much stress. I made it through shopping for Mrs B's family in Pennsylvania with just a LITTLE stress. This week comes and what happens? I have NO idea WHY... but this morning, I hit the stress super highway.

I have all my Christmas projects that I haven't started yet. I have a commission meeting tomorrow that I need to bake goodies for. My absolute favorite commissioner, and member here, Ken, is leaving so tomorrow is his going away party. It's potluck so I have to make that dish tonight as well. I still need to get him a card. AND, I really need to get a workout in.

My usually ordered life is in chaos and I am not happy about it.

What happens when I get like this? Food binge... skipping meals... not exercising. How to avoid that and maintain my sanity? I'm going to have to take things in small steps, do what I can, and let the rest sort themselves out. I do know that this is no ones fault but my own. That's what I get for trying to take on too much. Oh yeah, and I deserve it because I procrastinated as well.

I'll let you know tomorrow how this all plays out.

Inspiration of the Day

The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time - Abraham Lincoln, Lawyer, Statesman and 16th President of the United States.

Recipe of the Day

I'm a sucker for anything that includes garlic and shrimp so this one looks to be a clear winner. For those of you that aren't carb sensitive, make it with the pasta. I will probably substitute some stir fried veggies. Enjoy!

December is a month with 31 days but with all the activities, projects and parties, it seems to me that the month is really only five days long. At least that is the way that it feels. My small steps for today (and possibly the whole month) are to take a DEEP cleansing breath and relax. I can only do so much. I will work the program first...eating right and daily exercise. Anything that I accomplish beyond that should be considered a bonus.

I have a request. I know I have been saying how busy things are...and you and I certainly don't need to take on anymore ...BUT...here is what I will ask of you...and we both should be able to fit this in. The following is a request from a Facebook friend. It is a good one so I will pass it on.

When doing your holiday cards, send one to this address: A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue NW; Washington, D.C. 20307. Please show these men and women who risked their lives that they are in your heart during this time of year. Pass this on. Just think of how many cards these wonderful people will get.

Happy Trails!

It is that lovely stressful time of year. I know how I feel about the holidays and I won't share my BAH HUMBUG with you. I can tell you that almost everything about the holiday season stresses me out, even the fun stuff. I do like to plan a few special things with my family. For one, I go to Leavenworth each year. I do eat gingerbread and drink mulled wine and eat meat, meat and more meat. I don't let time limits rule my trip and I don't worry about buying a bunch of gifts. We seriously just have fun. No kidding. I know that not everyone can swing that kind of trip but you could try to do something similar. Just have fun.
