The Fork Ran Away with the Spoon

Greetings Friends~

Rebecca sent me a short email to let me know that she joined the gym that our mother uses. I think this will be beneficial to her and Mom. They can now be workout buddies. I'm not looking for laughs here. I think it is easier to do almost all things when we do it together. She mentioned that she doesn't know much about the weight machines. I don't either...nor, at this point do I have a desire to. Who knows, maybe sometime in the near future my curiosity will overcome my fear and I'll have someone show me how to use those funny looking contraptions. I think I'll wait because right now I'd look pretty odd wearing the leather weight lifter belt with this stomach. Hmm...does this belt make my stomach look fat? It's not the belt, Dude.

I may have mentioned this before so please excuse my Sometimers. For things to become a habit or routine, I often joke that I have to do it 21 times. I got that from the Oprah show...I wasn't watching it...really...it just happened to catch my eye as I was channel surfing during a commercial. Anyway, it applies. If I do a thing, one or two times, it really hasn't become a habit. But, if I do it everyday, then it becomes part of my routine.

One Step at a Time is responsible for many changes in my routine. If you read back through the postings, you will see the things I have done to lessen the burden on my daily routine. I am glad that the "new" me has found ways to make my life healthier and at the same time, less stressful. I hope that you can find at least one thing, like keeping track of how many bottles of water that you have drank today, that contributes to making your life better.

Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile. - Sir Wilfred Grenfell, 1865-1940

Shopping Tips

Safeway has some great things going on this week. I know it is right before payday but if you have any extra money, you may want to take advantage of this. First, if you buy $50 worth of items (some exclusions apply) you get a $10 gift card to Kohls. Also, while you are buying that $50 worth, if you do it on this Saturday or Sunday, you will get the following items for free; 1 dozen eggs, 1/2 half gallon orange juice, 1 pound of turkey bacon and 1 package of raisin bread or english muffins. These items are FREE. Also remember, if you have an Entertainment Book, there is a $5 off coupon for Safeway. So the way I see it, if you utilize all these deals and coupons, you should be able to get around $75 worth of groceries PLUS the $10 Kohls card for $50. Sale items this week are; milk at $1.99 gallon, Lean Cuisine Entrees for $1.99 each, whole turkey $.69 a pound, Fuji apples in the 5 pound bag for $2.99, Foster Farms lean ground turkey 20 oz package for $3.50, Progresso Light, Reduced Sodium or High Fiber soups 4 for $5.

Top Foods has Bartlett pears for $.59 a pound, Progresso soup 4 for $5, Fresh Express Baby Salad Blends for $2 each, Lean Cuisine Entrees 5 for $10, Quaker Instant Oatmeal Assortments for $1.99. They also are having a "Truckload" sale on canned items. Check your flyer in the mail or online for details.

Recipe of the Day

Here is a dish that should satisfy your potato craving while still being low in fat. Add broccoli or mushrooms if you are so inclined.

Chip is right about the "Sometimers" and about the 21 times. However, he listens and he learns and he improves. Maybe you don't need 21 times to learn or maybe you need 42 times. Listen to your friends (you know the people who support you), listen to your body (that lies about you being starving for ice cream at 11 pm) and listen to your soul (that tells you "I want to live and be healthy"). Listen. Learn to listen. And learn to improve.

Okay, I am making my second comment. I guess this whole internet thing will get easier some day. I felt pretty good tonight. I finished my volleyball match in time to get to the gym to do water aerobics. I kept looking at my watch and hoping that I would make it. There are some very nice people in the class. One guy always says hello and asks me if Chip is here. Who knows, maybe some day I will get him back in the water to do aerobics. I hope that each of you have something that inspires you to go out and do better (besides Chip of course). Although I think he is doing a really good job. Thanks honey for being my inspiration

Thanks, Mrs B. I do have plans to do some water aerobics. Probably this Saturday morning. The gym can be somewhat intimidating for a fat guy like me BUT I think it does get easier by getting to know people. Little by little I am introducing myself and asking others for their name. It is great to make new friends. I think it also gets easier when people see me day after day...this lets them know that I am serious about working out.
